I’m Back!

9 Jul

Hi Everyone,

I am sorry for being away for so long. A lot of life events have taken place since April and I had to just stop and take a step back and focus on my family and myself.

We have had two deaths in the family since April 2013: my husband’s uncle and my grandmother. In the middle of all that I have been switching/adjusting to a gluten free lifestyle. I was diagnosed with Celiac’s disease last year but was too stubborn to give up breads and all things related to wheat. A couple of months ago my doctor told me to make the switch already. So I did.

You know what I noticed? I don’t really miss the breads. On occasion, I do miss the birthday cakes and Red Lobster biscuits but I just try to look the other way when other people are enjoying them –just kidding (lol). I have even lost weight from giving up all of those carbs!

Switching to gluten free has really changed my couponing lifestyle. Since I cannot eat your regular cakes, cookies, breads, pastas, tortillas and even certain cooking ingredients, I don’t need the coupons for breads, pastas, Hamburger Helper, Duncan Hines, Pillsbury biscuits. Well, you get the idea. I’ve been keeping the menu planning super simple: meat, fruits, vegetables, beans and rice. I am incorporating gluten free pastas (made from brown rice) and other GF flours (brown rice flour, almond flour, tapioca flours) into the mix.

Another thing I have noticed, gluten free products are not cheap. Yes, there are coupons out there for gluten free products but they are not as easily and readily available as coupons for Hamburger Helper and Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes. I am sure, with time, this will change.

Being gluten free isn’t a bad thing really — actually it is very healthy way of living. I wouldn’t necessarily compare it to the Atkins diet either. It’s a bit more than that and a little more…complicated isn’t the right word…so let’s say, specific. Later on, I will make a separate tab about Celiac disease and going gluten free for anyone who is interested or wants to learn more.

Back to coupons– I stopped couponing for a while because I had to change the way I was eating.  Right now, I am simply buying meats, fruits and veggies. I was living off my stock pile for soaps, cleaning supplies and everything else. But my supply is starting to run low and my toddler is in constant need of diapers (moving onto Pull Ups as we work on potty training) so I need to get back on the wagon.

With that said– I’ll be posting the best deals I can find for you to take advantage of. So get your newspapers and scissors ready because Christmas is now less than 6 months away and we need money to save for it!

Free at CVS: Herbal Essence Shampoo/Conditioner

9 Jul

CVS has Herbal Essence and Aussie products on sale for 2/$5 BUT there is a coupon for $5 off  2 CLAIROL PRODUCTS.

My sources tell me that the manufacture meant this coupon to be used for hair dye BUT the coupon isn’t specific…it says CLAIROL PRODUCTS. On the Herbal Essence shampoo/conditioner bottles, it says CLAIROL on them on the top.

I’ve heard that CVS stores are ringing these coupons up with no problem…so guess what I am buying after work today?

Yes, there is a $1 off 2 coupon for Herbal Essence Shampoo/Conditioner (like the ad says) BUT…why save $1 when you can save $5!

Both coupons can be found in this past Sundays 7/7 PG insert.

My stockpile (update)

22 Mar

Hi everyone, Just thought I would share a current picture of my growing stockpile. I am very proud of it. Remember, most of the items you see in this picture will be given away as gifts for Christmas or donated to my church. I know the picture is a little on the blurry side but that is the best I could do to make sure I got everything in the picture. I had to sit on my washing machine to get everything. I am excited that I am starting to stockpile toilet paper thanks to this weeks CVS Extra Buck promotion -whoo hoo! Well, time to call it a night. Happy couponing!
